Kapok

[Ceiba pentandra]

Family
Malvaceae

Height
Up to 75 meter

Location and climate
Tropical and subtropical climate.

Pollination
Bees and bats

Usage
Stuffing in mattresses, pillows and duvets.

Earlier the kapok fiber was used in life vests.

The kapok tree needs a massive amount of water followed by a dry period. The dry weather will make the kapok capsule dry out and open up.

Kapok duvets are being marketed as an environmentally friendly and allergy friendly material. As a natural material kapok is great but when wet the fiber takes hours and hours in the dryer to dry out and become fluffy again.
